Student access to robust digital tools is key to their success as 21st century citizens. Yet many students from economically disadvantaged families have limited access to these tools both at school and at home. Clearly, there is a great deal of work that needs to be done. Closing the gap will require a broad approach involving schools and communities working together.
CoSN created the Community Leadership Award for Digital Equity to encourage and recognize those districts that are working to eliminate inequities and narrow the access gap.
All school district and educational service agency (serving multiple districts) teams are eligible for CoSN’s Community Leadership Award for Digital Equity. Ideal teams include key district leaders such as superintendents, CTOs, and chief curriculum leaders. Applicants are also encouraged to include local and state partners. CoSN Board members and their institutions are ineligible for CoSN awards. The nominee does not have to be a CoSN member.
Nominate an exemplary leadership team—or self-nominate. CoSN’s Awards committee will review all nominations and notify the winners in January. Winners will be asked to develop a video (under 4 minutes in length) that can be played at the Conference to showcase their work. The winning team will be honored at the CoSN Annual Conference. The team will also receive four complimentary conference registrations, a $2,000 honorarium, and media coverage.
The winning team will be selected based on its efforts to build community awareness and action to narrow the so-called Homework Gap and/or issues related to Digital Equity.
CoSN’s Awards committee will review all nominations and notified the winner in January.
