CoSN Staff Statement of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

CoSN recognizes the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in reaching its mission. To do so, CoSN must be a leader in encouraging, valuing, and fostering diversity in its membership and staff.
CoSN promotes a culture of collaboration and teamwork, effective management of conflict, transparency, open communication, and skill-building to enhance interpersonal and working relationships. Our goal is to create a safe work environment that encourages the sharing of ideas through a vigorous but respectful debate, builds and promotes trust and recognizes all staff members as equals.
CoSN recruits, maintains and celebrates a diverse professional staff. In addition, it solicits and engages diverse perspectives in CoSN’s external and internal work, including CoSN’s volunteer committees, meetings, and activities.
Diversifying the K-12 edtech field and promoting workforce diversity is among CoSN's highest priorities. Therefore, in principle and in practice, CoSN identifies, recognizes, and supports strategies and efforts within the organization and profession that are dedicated to achieving diversity, advancing equity and strengthening inclusion.
Adopted by CoSN Board, 2018

Diversity includes variations in race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, other ideologies or other characteristics protected by applicable law.

Equity recognizes that we all don’t all start from the same place. Equity is a process that works to correct and address imbalances to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to grow, contribute, and develop .

Inclusion means removing barriers and creating an environment that embraces all values with a sense of welcoming and belonging.
