CoSN Committees: Shaping the Future of EdTech
Below are the committees that drive CoSN’s initiatives and provide valuable resources and support to our members:
- Advocacy Auction Committee: The Advocacy Auction Committee oversees the annual fundraising event that supports CoSN’s advocacy efforts. This committee seeks sponsorships and donations for the silent auction, as well as other ways to raise funds.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) Committee: The AI Committee provides schools and districts with resources to help them adapt to shifting AI influence in K-12 education that supports the increasing teaching and learning demands. Members of the committee share their knowledge and expertise in a number of ways, including contributing to ongoing conversations and creating CoSN resources, as well as identifying districts that might serve as exemplars.
- Annual Conference Committee: CoSN’s Annual Conference committee members play pivotal roles through the annual conference process. They serve as content reviewers during the request for proposal process, as a sounding board for ensuring member initiatives are intact, and as volunteers at the annual conference. Attendance at the CoSN annual conference is required to serve on this committee.
- Awards Committee: The Awards Committee recognizes individuals and school districts that demonstrate outstanding vision in employing the use of information technologies and the Internet in K-12 education to improve learning. This committee coordinates nominations process for the Withrow CTO of the Year Award, District Team Leadership Award, Community Leadership for Digital Equity Award, and EmpowerED Digital Superintendent of the Year Award, as well as additional awards as directed by the CoSN Board of Directors.
- Belonging & Inclusion Committee: CoSN is committed to engaging in dialogues across perspectives within the K-12 EdTech field, to develop and promote strategies that strengthen inclusion. Our goal is to create a professional learning community that encourages actionable changes within our CoSN volunteer committees, meetings, and activities. Together with our board, staff, members, and corporate partners, we will continue to advocate by promoting collaboration and teamwork, effective management of dialogue, transparency, open communication, and skill-building to enhance interpersonal and working relationships.
- Certification Governance Committee: The Certification Governance Committee is responsible for establishing all policies and procedures pertaining to CETL® certification program, including approving all updates to the Framework, setting the eligibility requirements, setting the recertification requirements, establishing costs, and determining the passing score of the exam. Must be a CETL in good standing.
- Chief Technology Officer Council: The CTO* Council is responsible for oversight and review of the Framework Essential Skills and for production of the CTO Forums, typically at the CoSN Annual and ISTE conferences and now virtually throughout the year. They periodically review CoSN Leadership Initiatives to ensure that these efforts align to the Framework and meet the needs of district technology leaders. *Only district technology leaders eligible.
- Cybersecurity Committee: The Cybersecurity initiative includes the development of new tools and resources that will help reduce the risks of a cyberattack without undermining teaching and learning goals.
- Independent, Charter and Parochial School Committee: The goal of the Independent, Charter, and Parochial Schools Committee is to create a collaborative environment to address the unique technology leadership needs of independent, charter, and parochial schools and to identify and create the resources needed.
- Membership Committee: The purpose of the CoSN Membership Committee is to advance membership growth, retention, and value by serving as a resource and sounding board to CoSN’s membership staff on the development of strategy and campaigns. The committee is responsible for evaluating current and proposed members’ benefits, resources and potential membership structures and pricing to be reviewed and approved by the CoSN Board of Directors.
- Networking & Systems Design Committee: The Networking & Systems Design Initiative helps technology leaders to cost-effectively plan and implement networks that support the increasing demands on capacity, reliability, resilience and rapidly evolving technology.
- Professional Learning Committee: The CoSN Professional Learning Committee provides oversight and guidance on online courses, workshops, webinar series, early career, next-generation, mentoring, career pathways and other professional development opportunities.
- Student Data Privacy Initiative Educator Advisory Panel: The Student Data Privacy Initiative provides practical resources to educate and support districts in developing privacy programs designed to mitigate risks and build community trust, including resources in support of the Trusted Learning Environment Seal Program.
